Scarecrows are a charming addition to any garden. While their effectiveness at deterring birds is debatable, their decorative and playful appeal makes them worth having. Plus, they’re a great way to repurpose old clothes. Don’t forget to water their "messy hair" regularly, and you can trim it or let it grow wild for a fun look!
How to Make a Scarecrow and Necessary Materials
Steps to Make a Scarecrow
Cut the support stick into two pieces, measuring 180 cm and 100 cm. Secure them crosswise with thick twine. The horizontal piece will form the scarecrow's shoulders and should be tied about 20 cm below the top of the vertical stick. Dress your scarecrow with the clothes you have chosen. Use an old shirt, pants, or a creative costume of your choice. Secure the scarecrow firmly in the ground or place it temporarily in a suitable area for assembly. You can relocate it later. Tie a scarf around the neck area and make a bow. Place a clay pot on top, supported by the scarf. If additional support is needed, secure the pot to the stick with three tacks. Draw a simple face on the pot and let the paint dry. Fill the pot with fertilized soil, compact it, and scatter grass seeds on top. Water gently. Move the scarecrow to its designated spot and firmly anchor it into the ground. Ensure the installation is stable. Soon, the scarecrow’s “green hair” will start to grow.

To make a straw-haired scarecrow, you can fill a small dress with straw and add a small hat for decoration. For a green-haired scarecrow, use straw, corn husks, or green plants for the hair.
